COBB CHAMBER & SANDY SPRINGS PERIMETER CHAMBER LAUNCH NEW WEBSITE

Cobbgameday.com shares how Braves fans, commuters and employers can plan ahead for the best gameday experience.

ATLANTA (April 11, 2017) – Today, the Cobb Chamber and the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber have launched Cobbgameday.com to educate Braves fans, commuters and local employers on the best ways to access SunTrust Park, navigate the Cumberland area and how they can alleviate congestion during weekday Braves home games. The site offers quick and easy access to essential gameday and local event information, whether you’re going to the game, working in the area or traveling home on gameday. The site features extensive information on Braves parking and transportation options, helpful videos, and important resources, such as parking maps and bus routes.

“Since the beginning of the year, our two communities have come together to discuss both short-term and long-term goals related to gameday traffic and transit options,” said David Connell, President and CEO of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce. “This website is a major action item from our meetings, and its goal is to share how local businesses can have a positive impact on the success of gamedays for everyone.”

“We are excited about this partnership and the launch of cobbgameday.com, as it provides a comprehensive place for Braves fans, commuters, and employers to better understand the individual roles they can play on each gameday,” said Tom Mahaffey, President and CEO of the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber.

Cobbgameday.com encourages fans and commuters alike to “cover your bases” and make a plan for gameday. For fans traveling to the area for a game, purchasing parking in advance will streamline how they access SunTrust Park—before and after the game. Each parking lot has an address and fans who use the Waze app can be directed to their specific lot. For commuters, a gameday plan could be utilizing a telework day or a flexible work schedule to leave the office before fans begin arriving in Cumberland. Cobbgameday.com offers each audience resources to build their gameplans—links to Cobb Commute, the Cumberland Circulator, Georgia Commute Options, and Braves transportation and parking information.

“Above all, both Tom and I believe if Braves fans, commuters and companies utilize Cobbgameday.com and make a plan that allots for extra time and added patience, everyone will have a better gameday experience,” said Connell.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA – The Sandy Springs Innovation and Technology Center will open its doors in early 2017 to provide state-of-the-art resources and meeting space for technology professionals and innovators.  The center is being designed and built through a public-private partnership between the Sandy Springs Chamber, Sandy Springs Development Authority and Cousins Properties.  The Center will occupy 3,700 square feet of space in Northpark Town Center at Abernathy and Peachtree Dunwoody Roads and is scheduled to open in January-February 2017.

“The leadership of Sandy Springs has been interested in expanding and promoting our city’s innovation and technology resources for some time,” said Lever Stewart, CEO of MLQ Attorney Services and 2016 Chairman of the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber (SSPC).  “Innovation and entrepreneurship are ideal growth industries for our city and we believe Sandy Springs is ideally situated for innovation and technology companies and their professional staffs.  We are strategically located between downtown and North Fulton, and our new center is across the street from the MARTA station.  This makes the center a convenient meeting place to gather and network for investors in innovation technology-oriented companies considering Sandy Springs as a new home, as well as for Millennials who live in downtown or Midtown and are seeking professional technology opportunities with easy public transportation to and from work.”

“The Innovation and Technology Center will be a strong component of our marketing program to attract technology companies to Sandy Springs,” said Tom Mahaffey, SSPC president.  “Business people who are researching our city as a potential location will now have a technology hub where they can meet and learn about everything the city, county and state have to offer from fiber optic cable to a well-educated workforce.  We can also provide space for technology education seminars and programs.  We appreciate Cousins Properties working with us and offering us this beautiful office space at a below market rate.”

The Center will operate as a 501(c)3 and will be managed by the Sandy Springs Chamber.  Mahaffey says it is not designed to generate revenue through long-term office space sub-letting, rather, it will serve as a gathering place for collaboration, research and social events.  The Center will host educational seminars and programs, and provide an out-of-the-office location for local employees to work, as well as innovators seeking to create start-up companies.

“The Innovation and Technology Center will visibly demonstrate Sandy Springs’ commitment to the technology industry,” said Stewart.  “We want these companies, both established and start-ups, to think of Sandy Springs as the ideal location for their businesses.”

The Donna Adams Mahaffey Scholarship Fund

D A M

In 2015, the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber Board had a remarkable vision to create The Donna Adams Mahaffey Scholarship Fund. At the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber, we believe that education puts children on the path to success in life.

The Chamber expands educational opportunity to higher-education by providing scholarships to upcoming female high school graduates in the city of Sandy Springs. These scholarships instill children with the concept that regardless of their financial situation, they too can receive a higher education. Improving education on a regional scale has always been a priority to at the Chamber.

The Donna A. Mahaffey scholarship changes lives because this scholarship provides the tools and opportunities children need to succeed to reach their full potential. Until all high school graduates have the opportunity to attend college, the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber will continue to empower and inspire female graduates to attend college through The Donna Mahaffey Scholarship Fund.

About Donna Adams Mahaffey

Donna Adams Mahaffey was an influential leader and public servant in DeKalb County, Dunwoody and Sandy Springs for over 40 years. She was active in local communities and was involved in prevention programs to help improve the lives of people in need and facing adversity. Donna was passionate about women's education and felt that education was key to breaking cycles and improving the lives of families and their future generations.

Donna served on several nonprofit boards, was an early civil rights proponent and worked extensively on race relations and within communities around Atlanta. She was instrumental in the creation of the MARTA train system, providing accessible public transportation in the Metro Atlanta area. Her leadership with the DeKalb prevention alliance earned her a role as an advisor to Jimmy Carter's Atlanta Project. After retiring from DeKalb county, Donna worked for 14 years as Chief of External Affairs for the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts (PCIDs). The Perimeter CIDs provide much-needed transportation and infrastructure improvements in the Sandy Springs/Perimeter area, such as the Hammond exit, the Perimeter Parkway and flyover bridge, plus the state's first diverging diamond. In this role, Donna was instrumental in the project for the I-285/400 interchange reconstruction. Additionally, she volunteered in many Sandy Springs nonprofit organizations.

Due to financial limitations and family commitments, Donna did not immediately attend college after graduating high school. Donna pursued her degree over a span of 30 years. As she was able, she would go to college at night and on weekends while working full-time and raising her family. She earned her degree at the age of 50 and was grateful that she was finally able to complete her goal.

Donna always believed in giving back, pouring into others, and leveraging her influence to help communities. This scholarship has been made possible by the generous donations from people who wish to honor her giving spirit and her dedication to making the world a better place. Her legacy lives on through touching the lives of the recipients of this scholarship.
